Dhaka: Newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen on Thursday presented his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban and expressed his enthusiasm for enhancing the Bangladesh-US relationship. “Today I had the honor of presenting my Ambassadorial credentials to President Shahabuddin. The United States is proud to call Bangladesh a friend,” Ambassador Christensen stated following the ceremony.
According to United News of Bangladesh, in over 50 years of partnership, the US and Bangladesh have collaborated to promote regional stability, economic growth, and the sovereignty of their nations. Ambassador Christensen emphasized his intention to continue this collaborative work and further strengthen the ties between the two countries. He expressed his honor in serving as the 19th US Ambassador to Bangladesh, alongside his wife Deanne Dao, who arrived in Dhaka on Monday.
The US Embassy in Dhaka welcomed Ambassador Christensen, who expressed his excitement to return to a country holding fond memories for him. He underscored the importance of enhancing relations between the US and Bangladesh and leading a dedicated team at the Embassy to advance mutual interests and foster safety, strength, and prosperity.
Ambassador Christensen, confirmed by the Senate as Ambassador on December 18, 2025, previously served as the Senior Official performing the duties of Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. His extensive career in the Foreign Service includes roles as Foreign Policy Advisor, Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs, and various assignments in the Philippines, El Salvador, and Vietnam.
Domestically, he has served in numerous capacities, including Deputy Director, Office of Regional Security and Arms Transfers, and as a fellow on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. His educational background includes a Master of Science in National Security Strategy and a Master of Science in Statistics, complemented by proficiency in several languages.
Before his Foreign Service career, Ambassador Christensen worked as a management consultant in Houston and New York City, bringing a wealth of experience to his role as Ambassador to Bangladesh.
