Chapainawabganj: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 5.59 lakh Indian bidis and an engine-powered boat in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj early Sunday. However, no one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to United News of Bangladesh, BGB-16 Naogaon Battalion Commanding Officer, Lt Col Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, reported that a patrol team from the Charaldanga Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a drive in the Barobeel area of the upazila around 3:30 am. The operation was initiated following intelligence reports of smuggling activities in the region.
Upon sensing the presence of the BGB team, the smugglers abandoned the engine-powered boat and fled the scene. The BGB personnel subsequently conducted a thorough search of the boat and discovered 5.59 lakh Indian bidis.
The seized goods have been handed over to the Gomostapur Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings, confirmed the BGB official. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by BGB to curb smuggling activities along the border regions.
