Nonperial: In a remarkable display of courage and coordination, the disaster relief troops located at Nonperial detachment of the Gemunu Watch successfully rescued 35 civilians on 01 March 2025 who were trapped due to the sudden rising of the water level of Hirikatu Oya.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, a group of 75 local tourists from Kolonnawa who were on a visit around the Nonperial area faced this unfortunate incident. The quick response by the Gemunu Watch troops ensured the civilians were rescued before the water level of Hirikatu Oya rose further.

Troops from the disaster relief team located at Nonperial Detachment participated in this rescue operation.
