Colombo: The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence convened in Parliament under the leadership of Hon. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who also serves as the Minister of Defence. The meeting was attended by key figures, including the Hon. Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekera (Retd), and the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.), alongside several officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Commanders of the Tri-Forces.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, Hon. Members of Parliament addressed a spectrum of issues that are pertinent to the Ministry of Defence. Among the topics discussed were the role of the Sri Lanka Navy in curbing illegal fishing activities and the ongoing concerns regarding the release of lands in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
In response to these discussions, Hon. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issued directives to the officials present, emphasizing the need for appropriate actions to be
taken after carefully considering the justified concerns raised during the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, along with several other officials, highlighting the importance of the issues discussed during the session of the Consultative Committee.
