JMSDF Ship AKEBONO Arrives for Goodwill Visit in Colombo


Colombo: The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) ship AKEBONO arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit this morning. The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.



According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the 150.5-meter-long JMSDF AKEBONO is a destroyer, commanded by Commander ARAI Katsutomo and manned by a crew of 158. During their stay on the island, crew members will have the opportunity to explore some tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. The visit’s itinerary also includes professional engagements with the Sri Lanka Navy, aimed at strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two naval forces.



Concluding the visit, JMSDF AKEBONO will depart the country on 31 October, after conducting a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a Sri Lanka Navy ship in the Colombo seas.
