Defence Secretary Highlights Strategic Leadership at National Defence College Lecture


Colombo: Sharing his expertise and wisdom, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) delivered a lecture to student officers at the National Defence College (NDC) in Colombo today.

According to Ministry of Defence, the Defence Secretary delivered this annual lecture at the invitation of the NDC Commandant, Major General Chamila Munasinghe, who warmly received him upon his arrival this morning. During the lecture, he emphasized the crucial role of the National Defence College in shaping leaders who understand the full spectrum of security challenges and opportunities. He highlighted that the training at NDC is transformational, reflecting Sri Lanka’s interconnected approach to security. ‘True strategic leadership is not about predicting the future; it is about preparing for it,’ he remarked.

The lecture was conducted as part of the National Security and Strategic Studies course curriculum. The National Defence College is committed to developing future leaders capable of functioning as str
ategic thinkers in national security, statecraft, diplomacy, and public policy, aiming to safeguard and advance national interests.

In appreciation of his contribution, the NDC Commandant presented a commemorative memento to the Defence Secretary.
