Mymensingh: Two individuals lost their lives and at least 10 others sustained injuries when a mini-bus overturned on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, on Thursday evening. The tragic incident unfolded around 7:30 pm near Sultana Garments in the Mehrabari area of the upazila.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims have been identified as Anik Mia, a 32-year-old bus helper from Jagannathdia village in Ghior, Manikganj, and Shahjan Siraji, a 40-year-old from Birunia village in Bhaluka. Local authorities reported that the mini-bus lost control near Sultana Garments, overturning and leading to the immediate death of Shahjan Siraji at the scene. The driver, alongside Anik Mia and at least 12 passengers, suffered serious injuries due to the accident.

Emergency responders from Bhaluka Fire Service and Veradoba Highway Police promptly transported the injured to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, medical personnel declared Anik Mia deceased. The driver, in critical condition, was subsequently referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, while other injured individuals continue to receive treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.

ABM Mehedi Masud, the officer-in-charge of Veradoba Highway Police Station, confirmed the bodies had been recovered and the mini-bus seized. He stated that legal procedures are underway and the bodies will be returned to their respective families post-investigation.
