Chattogram: A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was beaten to death by assailants in the Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram city, police reported. The incident occurred around midnight near Amin Jute Mill Midya Para.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim, identified as Khorshed Alam, 40, was a resident of the Raufabad area under the same police jurisdiction. In connection with the attack, one suspect, Shamsul Alam, 31, has been arrested, while police are actively pursuing the other individuals involved.

CCTV footage, now widely shared on social media, reveals Khorshed engaged in a heated argument with three men on the street. The confrontation escalated into physical violence, with Khorshed being repeatedly struck with sticks until he fell to the ground. The attackers continued their assault after he collapsed and subsequently fled the scene, while bystanders did not intervene.

Jahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Bostami police station, stated that Khorshed was transported to a nearby hospital in a critical state, where he was declared dead by medical staff. Authorities have reviewed the CCTV footage to identify those responsible and are continuing their investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attack may have been triggered by a dispute concerning the victim’s alleged bad breath. Khorshed’s family is currently preparing to file a formal complaint.
