Sri Lanka’s PM Outlines Vision for Sustainable Investment Partnerships

Colombo: Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya addressed members of the Chief Executives Organization (CEO) during a session held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo, as part of CEO’s Pearl of the Indian Ocean: Sri Lanka programme. The Prime Minister presented her vision for building a stable, transparent, and resilient Sri Lanka ready for sustainable investment partnerships.

According to News.LK, the Chief Executives Organization is a global network of business leaders from over 60 countries. The delegation visiting Sri Lanka comprised entrepreneurs and executives keen on exploring the country’s economic prospects, investment climate, and development trajectory.

During her address, the Prime Minister emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to structural transformation, transparency, and inclusive growth. She highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at equitable access to quality education and the creation of a skilled workforce. The Government is shifting towards a more student-focused educational system, moving away from an examination-driven approach.

Reflecting on the recent political transition, the Prime Minister noted the mandate to restore accountability and strengthen democratic governance. She stated that Sri Lanka has recorded positive growth and restored confidence in key sectors, with a focus on long-term resilience rather than short-term recovery.

The Prime Minister also addressed governance reforms, aligning legislative and regulatory frameworks with international standards to enhance predictability, investor protection, and transparency. She stressed the importance of trust in attracting sustainable investment.

In light of Cyclone Ditwa’s impact, affecting all 25 districts of the country, the Prime Minister highlighted the urgency of building climate resilience. She noted the Government’s efforts to strengthen disaster mitigation systems and protect vulnerable communities.

Inviting CEO members to consider Sri Lanka as a strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region, she showcased opportunities in sectors such as value-added mineral exports, logistics, agro-processing, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals. She emphasized the pursuit of long-term partnerships committed to transparency, sustainability, and inclusive development.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing appreciation for Sri Lanka’s selection in CEO’s 2026 programme and reaffirmed the Government’s readiness to engage with responsible global investors. The event was attended by notable figures, including the Governor of the Western Province, Mr. Hanif Yusoof, and other distinguished guests.
