Hanguranketha: The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd.), presided over a ‘Public Day’ Program last Friday in Hanguranketha. The event provided retired military personnel and their families a direct platform to voice concerns and grievances, facilitating interaction between the Deputy Minister and the local community, including beyond the veteran population.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the program primarily focused on issues impacting veterans and their families, with particular emphasis on housing, welfare assistance, and other service-related concerns. Discussions aimed at identifying practical solutions to enhance the welfare and living conditions of the veteran community.

During the event, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of retired military personnel who have served the nation. He stressed the importance of maintaining engagement with veterans and ensuring their concerns are addressed through coordinated institutional support.

The session was also attended by Hon. Ranjith Wijerathna, M.P. from the Nuwara Eliya district, who facilitated necessary follow-up action on several key issues. The Public Day Program is part of the Ministry of Defence’s ongoing efforts to strengthen communication with the veteran community and promote their welfare and well-being.
