Colombo: Venerable Walpola Vimalagnana Thero was formally conferred the esteemed title of Mahanayaka during a ceremonial event held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall. The event took place on June 06, with the participation of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, marking a significant moment for the Ariyawansa Saddhamma Yukthika Chapter of the Maha Viharavanshika Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya.
According to News.LK, the ceremony was led by the Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithree Moorthi Nayaka Thero, Mahanayaka of the Maha Viharavanshika Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya. The Prime Minister presented the Sri Sannas Patra to Venerable Walpola Vimalagnana Thero, officially conferring the office of Mahanayaka upon him.
The event saw the attendance of members of the Maha Sangha from the three Nikayas, clergy of other faiths, and distinguished guests, including Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne and Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Gamagedara Dissanayake. Lay devotees also gathered to witness this important occasion.
