Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its nod to a proposal aimed at reducing the international open tender period for procuring essential raw materials used in the production of urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP), and triple superphosphate (TSP) fertilisers. This decision, made during a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Secretariat, is intended to ensure the urgent supply of these materials.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Industries put forward the proposal to decrease the minimum tender submission period from 42 days to 21 days. The committee believes that this adjustment will expedite the procurement process, thereby maintaining an uninterrupted production of fertilisers and ensuring a sufficient supply for the country’s agricultural sector.

In addition to this, the committee also gave its in-principle approval to another proposal involving the Bangladesh Army’s 34 Engineer Construction Brigade in Chattogram. This proposal, submitted by the Local Government Division, seeks to include the brigade as the executing agency for road construction projects in the Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda upazila, under the delegated procurement method.

The proposal is part of the second revised Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the project titled ‘Widening and Strengthening of Important Upazila and Union Roads in Chattogram Division (1st Revised).’ The 34 Engineer Construction Brigade will be responsible for paving six connecting roads in Jungle Salimpur, an area known for its challenging terrain and infrastructure needs.
