Dhaka: Six people, including four firefighters, suffered injuries after a fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in the Padma intersection area of Hemayetpur in Savar early Sunday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the blaze erupted shortly after 1:00am at the warehouse, located in a six-storey building in the Shahidullah Housing area. Monwar Hossain, team leader of Savar Fire Service and Civil Defence, reported that locals noticed smoke and promptly informed the local fire service.

Two firefighting units arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control around 7:00am, after nearly six hours of effort. However, the presence of flammable chemicals inside the warehouse caused multiple explosions during the operation, injuring four firefighters, including Monwar.

Two other individuals were also injured in the incident. The injured firefighters were identified as Md Shamim, Md Uzzal, and Md Omar Faruk. The other victims were Mashiur Rahman and Jony. Mashiur, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to local Enam Medical College Hospital, where doctors have confirmed he is now out of danger.

Monwar suggested that the fire might have originated from an electric meter.
