Dhaka: The monsoon depression over the Northwest Bay and the adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts has intensified into a deep depression. It is now positioned over the Northwest Bay and the adjacent West Bengal-North Odisha coasts, near latitude 21.2°N and longitude 88.1°E, as of 0600 am on Monday, July 27, 2026. The system is approximately 425 km west-southwest of Chattogram, 430 km west of Cox’s Bazar, 220 km west-southwest of Mongla, and 260 km west-southwest of Payra, according to a special bulletin issued by the Met office.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the deep depression is anticipated to move north-northwestwards and is expected to cross the West Bengal-north Odisha coasts by Monday evening. The influence of this weather system may bring squally conditions to the maritime ports, North Bay, and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh. The maximum sustained wind speed near the center of the deep depression is estimated to be around 50 kph, with gusts or squalls reaching up to 60 kph. The sea is predicted to remain rough in the vicinity of the deep depression center.

Maritime ports including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No 3. Furthermore, all fishing boats and trawlers operating over the North Bay have been advised to seek shelter until further notice, ensuring safety and minimizing risks associated with the adverse weather conditions.
