Dhaka: Women and Children Affairs, and Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has announced that no citizen will be denied medical treatment due to financial constraints in the ‘humane Bangladesh’ envisioned under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Zahid made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a programme held at the National Institute of ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) in Tejgaon. The event was organized to mark World Head and Neck Cancer Day 2026, celebrated with the theme ‘Speak Up, Detect Early, Save Lives.’

Minister Zahid emphasized the government’s dedication to comprehensive development across all sectors, extending beyond healthcare. He reiterated that the commitments outlined in the BNP’s election manifesto will be fulfilled progressively. The minister also appealed to journalists to promote public awareness, highlighting that individuals with hearing and speech impairments can recover, urging media support to disseminate this message widely.

During the event, Zahid inaugurated a newly established Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) Centre at the hospital. The AVT Centre is designed to assist children who have lost their hearing either congenitally or later in life, for whom no other restoration of speech is possible. These children undergo costly cochlear implantation surgery, supported by the Ministry of Social Welfare, and receive therapy at the AVT Centre, which operates under the Ministry of Health. The minister also articulated plans to expand the AVT Centre’s services to a divisional level.

At the conclusion of the programme, Minister Zahid distributed donation cheques and medical devices to patients suffering from various head and neck-related diseases.
