Dhaka: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit on Monday expressed apologies to the public for the ongoing gas crisis and shared hopes for an improvement in supply from next week, with full restoration anticipated about a week later. Speaking at the Secretariat, Amit reassured that the government is committed to resolving the crisis, which has disrupted households, industries, and transportation.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Amit explained that the disruption was not due to any government agency but was linked to a technical issue with a private operator responsible for part of the gas supply. The state minister emphasized the government’s efforts, stating, “We know homemakers are struggling to cook, industries have had to scale back production, and pressure on CNG stations has disrupted public transport. We sincerely apologise to the people for the hardship.”

Amit detailed the collaborative efforts between government teams and the operator, working continuously to address the issue. He pointed out that the problem originated at the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, which typically supplies between 500 and 550 million cubic feet of gas daily. The operator has indicated that the FSRU could resume supplying 280 to 300 million cubic feet per day starting next week.

The state minister expressed optimism, indicating that if the operator succeeds in restoring about 50 percent of the supply next week, the target is to achieve full capacity the following week.
