Dhaka: Three workers suffered burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion at a cylinder warehouse in South Surma upazila of Sylhet on Monday afternoon. The incident took place while gas cylinders were being loaded and unloaded at the warehouse in the Khidirpur area under South Surma Police Station.

According to United News of Bangladesh, a gas leak was detected from a cylinder during the loading and unloading process. At one point, the cylinder exploded, igniting a fire that spread through the warehouse and resulted in the injuries of the three workers identified as Emon Ahmed, Zayed Ahmed, and Akbar Ali, all residents of Khojarkhola area in South Surma.

Local residents assisted in rescuing the injured workers and transporting them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment. Firefighter Shahjalal from the South Surma Alampur Fire Service and Civil Defence Station reported that a unit of the Fire Service promptly arrived at the scene near the Sylhet-Sunamganj bypass road after receiving information about the explosion and fire.

The firefighters managed to quickly bring the blaze under control. Officer-in-Charge of South Surma Police Station Ashrafuzzaman confirmed that the Fire Service contained the fire soon after reaching the site. Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
