Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi emphasized that no issue between India and Bangladesh is insurmountable if approached with mutual understanding. He expressed optimism about the potential progress following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s anticipated visit to India, suggesting that such a visit would facilitate constructive forward movement.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Trivedi shared his positive outlook after meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During discussions, Trivedi reiterated the Indian government’s eagerness to host the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, noting that the invitation’s acceptance is at the discretion of Prime Minister Rahman.
Addressing bilateral issues such as the Teesta and Ganges Water Treaties, Trivedi stated that the recent meeting was primarily a courtesy call conducted in a warm environment. He highlighted the role of active working groups from both nations in addressing treaty renewals, emphasizing that all problems can be resolved. Trivedi expressed confidence that once the Prime Minister visits India, bilateral discussions will advance constructively.
The High Commissioner underscored the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, mentioning shared interests including sports such as cricket. He conveyed his vision for a relationship founded on mutual benefits for both countries’ citizens, expressing confidence in deeper engagements in the future.
Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe and other officials from the High Commission were present during the discussions. Trivedi presented his credentials to the President of Bangladesh on June 25, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
Prime Minister Rahman has been invited to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, focusing on global cooperation, trade, and sustainable development. State Minister Shama Obaed Islam confirmed the receipt and forwarding of the invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, expressing hope that India will address its people’s issues.
India’s BRICS chairship highlights a people-centric approach, aligning with themes of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. The BRICS agenda, which has evolved beyond economic issues, now encompasses a wide array of global concerns, including climate change, security, and international trade.
