Dhaka: The National Citizen Party (NCP) has filed a police complaint concerning an attack on its convoy that occurred on Tuesday in Habiganj. This action was taken after an incident that left several party members injured.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the complaint was officially lodged at the Kamaichhara Police Outpost in Bahubal upazila at approximately 8:30pm on Wednesday. NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary announced the filing of the complaint in a Facebook post. Earlier that day, police had stopped a convoy of NCP leaders who were en route from Moulvibazar to Habiganj. This followed the enforcement of Section 144 in the Habiganj municipality.

The convoy, which included NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah, and Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam, departed from the Moulvibazar Circuit House around 4:30pm. However, it was intercepted in the Cha Kanya area of Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, at about 5:00pm. The attack on Tuesday resulted in injuries to at least 15 NCP leaders and activists, including Sarjis Alam, and the microbus carrying the leaders was damaged.

The NCP stated that the attack occurred as Sarjis Alam and Nasiruddin Patwary were departing from a venue near the Court Mosque after addressing an event commemorating the July mass uprising. Following the attack, police escorted the two leaders to the Circuit House to ensure their safety. The NCP has accused activists from Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal of orchestrating the attack.
