Dhaka: Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP), formally assumed charge as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police on Wednesday. A notification regarding his appointment was issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 28.

According to United News of Bangladesh, before joining the CID, Mosharraf Hossain served as Director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) on deputation, where he was promoted to the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police. A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadre, Mosharraf began his career in the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1995.

Throughout his nearly three-decade-long career, Mosharraf has held various operational, investigative, intelligence, training, and administrative roles within the police force. He played a significant role at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, contributing to training, research, and curriculum development. His experience includes serving as Superintendent of Police at the CID headquarters and its Chattogram and Cumilla units. Additionally, he has served at the field level as Superintendent of Police in Pirojpur and Chapainawabganj districts.

Educationally, Mosharraf earned a Master’s degree in Economics from Islamic University in Kushtia. He furthered his education by completing his Bar-at-Law from City University London in the United Kingdom. The ceremony marking his assumption of duty was attended by senior CID officials, including deputy inspectors general, additional deputy inspectors general, superintendents of police, and additional superintendents of police, who welcomed the newly appointed CID chief.
