All Offices and Post Offices Declared Smoke-Free by Directorate of Posts

Dhaka: The Directorate of Posts has officially declared all its offices and post offices as 100% smoke-free and tobacco-free zones. This announcement was made by Director General Kazi Asadul Islam during an event titled “Sustainable Tobacco Control Initiative: Declaration of All Offices and Post Offices Under the Directorate of Posts as Smoke-Free and Tobacco-Free,” held at the Directorate of Posts conference room.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the declaration aligns with the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act, 2005 (Amendment 2026), which prohibits and punishes smoking and the use of tobacco products in public places. In an effort to protect public health, the Directorate of Posts will completely prohibit the purchase, sale, and use of all tobacco products within its jurisdiction.

This initiative aims to shield employees and visitors from the risks of secondhand smoke exposure. The event saw participation from Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Bilquis Jahan Rimi as the chief guest, with Additional Secretary of the Health Services Division Sheikh Momena Moni attending as a special guest.
