Dhaka: Two siblings drowned in a pond at Khalapara village in Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj district. The deceased were identified as Rifat Mia, aged 4, and Safa Akter, aged 2, the children of Rubel Mia from Khalapara village.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the tragic incident occurred while the children were playing near a pond beside their house around 10 am. Assistant Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim of Mithamoin Police Station reported that Safa fell into the water and drowned initially. Rifat, in a brave attempt to save his sister, also drowned.

Locals promptly rescued the children and rushed them to Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex. Unfortunately, doctors declared them dead upon arrival. Dr. Abdullah-Al-Shafi, Mithamoin Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, confirmed that the children had already passed away before reaching the hospital.
