Puttalam: Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) and the President of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU), Dr. (Mrs.) Ruvini Rasika Perera, visited the Base Hospital, Puttalam, to inspect the ongoing renovation of the Physician Ward and review preparations for the renovation of the Paediatric Ward, which is scheduled to commence next week.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the renovation project is being carried out with manpower provided by the Sri Lanka Air Force and is funded through donations from Gangaramaya Temple and Dr. Dulan Hettiarachchi. The initiative has been coordinated by the President of the Ministry of Defence SVU, Dr. (Mrs.) Ruvini Rasika Perera.
Upon their arrival, the Defence Secretary and the SVU President were welcomed by the hospital administration and staff before inspecting the progress of the renovation work. During the visit, they were briefed on the progress of the ongoing renovation work and the planned renovation of the Paediatric
Ward.
The visit was attended by Medical Superintendent Dr. Lasith Malalasekara, Consultant Physician Dr. Rakhitha Welagedara, Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Ruwan Disanayake, Consultant Respiratory Physician Dr. Upul Pathirana, Dr. Lasantha Liyanage, officials of the Ministry of Defence, representatives of the Sri Lanka Air Force, and the staff of Base Hospital, Puttalam.
