Dhaka: At least 10 activists were injured in a clash between leaders and supporters of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Kurigram’s Fulbari upazila on Thursday evening. The clash erupted at approximately 6:30 pm on Thana Road in the upazila headquarters when protest processions from both parties encountered each other.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the confrontation began when NCP leaders and activists organized a protest march from their office on Thana Road. They were demonstrating against an alleged attack on Azan Ahmed Shawon, the member secretary of the student wing Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, which occurred on July 29. Simultaneously, Jatiotabadi Chatradal, Jubodal, and Swecchasebak Dal leaders and activists were marching towards the police station from the Adam Market area.

As the two groups met near Shaheed Lutfor Rahman Sarani, tensions quickly escalated, resulting in a violent clash that involved a chase and counter-chase scenario. Witnesses reported that at least 10 people from both sides sustained injuries during the commotion. However, due to the ongoing tension in the area, the identities of the injured could not be confirmed immediately.

Mahmud Hasan Nayeem, Officer-in-Charge of Fulbari Police Station, stated that police promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving information and managed to bring the situation under control. He noted that several individuals from both factions were reportedly injured during the altercation and the subsequent chaos.

The Officer-in-Charge assured that the law-and-order situation in the area is now stable. To prevent any further incidents, additional police forces have been deployed throughout the upazila headquarters.
