Jakarta and Dhaka to Enhance Cooperation at UNESCO

Jakarta: Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bangladesh Listyowati has expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Bangladesh following Indonesia’s election to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguard of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICSICH) for the 2026-2030 term. This was discussed during her meeting with Bangladesh’s Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury on July 29.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting was also attended by State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, MP, and senior officials from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in cultural domains, which are seen as a crucial part of cultural diplomacy, and fostering people-to-people connections to bolster bilateral relationships.

The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka reported that the meeting explored various opportunities for initiating programs and collaborations in areas such as performing arts, visual arts, cultural heritage, museums, literature, handicrafts, and economic creativity. These initiatives are considered particularly significant in light of the upcoming 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Bangladesh in 2027.
