Sylhet: Five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in five upazilas of Sylhet ahead of the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) scheduled marches and rallies. Sylhet Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Zakir Hossain reported that the BGB members have been stationed in Osmaninagar, Jaintapur, Kanaighat, Gowainghat, and Companiganj to ensure order during these events.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the deployment was prompted by a request from the Home Ministry to maintain law and order during the NCP activities. The events will commence on Thursday with a march and rally in Kanaighat at 3pm, followed by another in Osmaninagar at 7pm. On Friday, the rallies will take place in Companiganj at 3pm, Gowainghat at 5pm, and Jaintapur at 7pm.

In addition to the BGB deployment, Sylhet Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media) Samrat Talukder confirmed that adequate police personnel, both in uniform and plainclothes, would be present to ensure discipline during the NCP programmes. Furthermore, on Thursday, the NCP plans to hold an exchange of views with members of the families of martyrs in Golapganj at 11am, which will be attended by central leaders of the party.
