Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman announced that Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister and convicted individual, will face legal proceedings if she returns to Bangladesh. This statement came during a press event at the Secretariat, where a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Legal Aid Services Organization and non-governmental organizations BRAC and BLAST to enhance legal aid services.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the law minister addressed questions concerning Hasina’s intentions to return to Bangladesh in December, as stated in a recent interview. He mentioned that the Home Ministry is actively seeking her extradition. “If she comes, the law will take its own course. We will not do anything in violation of the law. We will exercise the authority that the law gives us,” Asaduzzaman stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to adhere to legal protocols.

When questioned about the logistical challenges Hasina might face, such as not possessing a passport, Asaduzzaman remarked, “How she will come is her problem. It is not our problem.” He further clarified that upon her arrival within Bangladesh’s jurisdiction, the authorities would implement the law as mandated. “When she enters our jurisdiction, I will exercise the authority given to me by law and enforce the law. That’s as simple as it is,” he concluded, underscoring the straightforward approach the government plans to take in dealing with her return.
