Dhaka: The High Court on Thursday disposed of 7,565 old criminal miscellaneous cases through its 14 Criminal Motion Benches as part of an ongoing special initiative to reduce the backlog of cases. This effort is a continuation of a special disposal programme aimed at addressing the accumulation of cases.

According to United News of Bangladesh, over the course of 10 working days since the programme’s inception, a total of 43,357 old criminal miscellaneous cases have been disposed of. The initiative operates on a schedule where it is conducted one day each week, focusing on clearing long-pending cases.

The High Court has managed to dispose of a total of 50,264 old cases during this period, which includes both old criminal miscellaneous cases and old writ petitions. The special initiative aligns with directives from the Chief Justice, focusing on expediting the resolution of cases in the Criminal Motion Benches and Writ Motion Benches of the High Court.

The programme’s goal is to ensure quicker access to justice for litigants, mitigate the backlog of cases, and enhance the efficiency of the judicial system. This special case disposal drive commenced on May 7 this year, dedicating a specific day weekly for addressing long-pending criminal miscellaneous and writ cases.
