Dhaka: Actress Storm Reid is exploring a new dimension of her artistry with the release of her latest single ‘Shotty,’ aiming to reveal a more personal side of herself that fans may not have previously seen. The 23-year-old actress, known for her roles in ‘Euphoria,’ ‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ and the Emmy-winning ‘The Last of Us,’ expresses her journey through her music, portraying herself as a young woman navigating the complexities of love, relationships, and life.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Reid released ‘Shotty’ on Friday, marking another milestone in her budding music career. She hopes her audience will connect with the less polished, more authentic version of herself that her music conveys. Reid candidly admits, “I think people might think I have it all together when I really don’t. I’m a normal girl trying to figure it out.”
Following her debut single ‘Clean Sweep,’ ‘Shotty’ is part of Reid’s deeper dive into music, having recorded over 25 songs in the past year. As she continues to evolve her sound, Reid is focusing on creating her first EP after completing work on Teyana Taylor’s directorial debut, ‘Get Lite.’ She emphasizes the importance of crafting a project with a cohesive narrative.
Releasing her music independently through her label, 1720 Music, Reid enjoys the creative freedom it affords while remaining open to future collaborations with major labels. “With the indie route, you have a little bit more autonomy of what you want to do and how you do things,” she noted. Beyond her personal projects, Reid aspires to use her label as a platform to nurture talent, expressing her desire to sign and support songwriters, producers, and fellow artists.
Despite her growing passion for music, Reid maintains her commitment to acting, with upcoming projects including Netflix’s ‘Roommates’ and ‘Get Lite.’ Her experiences on the set of ‘Get Lite’ have further honed her performance skills, particularly in dancing, which she believes will benefit her when she takes her music to the stage.
Reflecting on her career, Reid acknowledges the criticism she has faced, especially regarding her Emmy win. However, she remains unfazed, stating, “People didn’t feel like I deserved to win an Emmy, but it’s still sitting in my house. It’s still in my mama’s house, so I don’t really care what people say.”
Reid’s transition into music is a declaration of her multifaceted identity. She asserts that music is as significant to her as acting and is committed to growing in both fields. “It’s as big and as important as acting is,” Reid affirms.
