Trincomalee: Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), visited the Trincomalee Naval Dockyard on 30 July 2026 to evaluate the progress of significant infrastructure development projects aimed at boosting the operational capabilities of the Sri Lanka Navy.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, upon his arrival, the Deputy Minister was welcomed with military honors by Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and Commander of the Eastern Naval Area. The visit included an inspection of the floating dock and the new jetty under construction at the dockyard, projects designed to enhance the Navy’s readiness and support national maritime security goals.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister reviewed the project developments and provided guidance to officials on accelerating construction efforts while ensuring adherence to efficiency and standards. The goal is to complete the projects within the scheduled timeframe.
The visit concluded with a discussion between the Deputy Minister and Rear Admiral Liyanagamage on the dockyard’s ongoing development and naval capability enhancement. To commemorate the event, the Deputy Minister received a memento. Commodore Haritha Jayadeva, Deputy Commander of the Eastern Naval Area, along with senior naval officers and personnel, were also present during the visit.
