Pabna: A suspected thief was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Mistripara Thandatola village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district early Monday. The deceased was identified as Manik Hossain alias Sumon, 32, son of Boyen Mondal of Mahadebpur Aziztala in the upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station Asadur Rahman reported that Manik attempted to steal valuables from the shop of Habibul Mondal during the night. Sensing the thief’s presence, Habibul approached his shop, which is adjacent to his house, and tried to apprehend Manik.
During the confrontation, Manik struck Habibul with a Chinese axe, causing injury. The commotion drew the attention of Habibul’s two sons, who rushed to the scene only to be attacked by Manik, resulting in injuries to both.
Eventually, local residents managed to capture Manik and subjected him to a severe beating, which resulted in his death. The injured, Habibul and his two sons, were subsequently taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the location and transported Manik’s body to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
