Dhaka: Acting Speaker Barrister Kaysar Kamal on Wednesday called for building a discrimination-free Bangladesh founded on resistance to imperialism and domination, while paying tribute to those who were killed and injured in the movement against fascism. ‘I pay my deepest respects to those who embraced martyrdom and those who were injured while fighting against fascism,’ the acting Speaker said.

According to United News of Bangladesh, he was speaking as the chief guest at a cultural programme titled ‘Songs of the Monsoon Revolution’ organised on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital to mark the Victory Day of the July Mass Uprising. He said the nation must remain steadfast in its commitment to establishing an equitable Bangladesh.

Chief Whip Noorul Islam, Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, and Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan also attended the event as special guests. Chief Whip Noorul Islam said the country must not deviate from the objectives of what he described as the ‘victory revolution.’ He stressed the need to ensure that the aspirations of young people are never undermined again, adding that the spirit of the Monsoon Revolution should remain alive in the hearts of the people.

Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan urged the nation to remain united in the face of any national crisis and called for vigilance to prevent the re-emergence of authoritarian rule. Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam called for continued efforts to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh and paid tribute to the martyrs of the July movement.

Leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP), including Convener and Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah, also addressed the programme. The speakers expressed their commitment to building a transformed Bangladesh through unity despite differences of opinion.
