Dhaka: Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday claimed that another revolution is imminent and urged the people to prepare for it, warning that no one would be able to prevent the fall of the current government unless it corrects its course.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman addressed a public rally at the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital, marking the second anniversary of the 2024 July Mass Uprising. The Jamaat-led 11-party alliance organized the rally, where the Jamaat chief spoke as the chief guest. He stated that the consequences of wrongdoing may take time to unfold, but ultimately sin decays and collapses on its own. Dr. Rahman warned that the current government should heed these signs to avoid its downfall.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that as people of all ages had joined the July uprising, everyone would take part in the coming movement. He asserted that the struggle against what he described as a fascist regime would continue. The opposition leader accused the current government of exhibiting behaviors similar to a fascist regime and urged them to abandon such practices.
The Jamaat chief called on the government to respect the public mandate given through a referendum for reform initiatives. He claimed that 70 percent of the people had expressed their will through this referendum, and that disregarding it would lead to the government’s downfall. Dr. Rahman also mentioned that his party faced ongoing pressure to compromise but vowed not to retreat.
Addressing recent violence in educational institutions, Dr. Rahman expressed concern for the anxiety and fear it has created among students and teachers. He urged educational communities to resist injustice and to not tolerate any wrongdoing.
The rally was presided over by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, with leaders of the 11-party alliance also addressing the gathering.
