Dhaka: Two children tragically lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in a collision between a CNG-run autorickshaw and a locally made three-wheeler, known as a votvoti, in Nakla upazila on Thursday evening.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the accident took place at approximately 7:30 pm in the Dhanakusha area on the Nakla-Nalitabari road. The victims were identified as 17-month-old Mujahidul Islam and 15-year-old Nahid Hasan. The injured parties include Mujahidul’s parents, Monirul Islam, 30, and Nilufa Yasmin, 25, as well as Furkan Hamid, 30, and Jahanara Begum, 55.
Police and local sources reported that Monirul Islam was traveling to his home in Phulpur with his family in a CNG-run autorickshaw after attending a family gathering in Nalitabari. The vehicle collided with an oncoming votvoti in the village of Dhanakusha, resulting in the tragic accident.
The collision’s impact was severe, causing young Mujahidul to be thrown from his mother’s lap onto the road, suffering critical head injuries. Despite being rushed to Nakla Upazila Health Complex, he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. Nahid Hasan, another passenger, was en route to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital but succumbed to his injuries before arrival.
The other injured individuals received treatment at Nakla Upazila Health Complex. In a heart-wrenching statement, Monirul Islam recounted the day’s events, expressing his grief and despair over the loss of his only son, questioning, “Will I ever get justice?”
Sub-Inspector Lokman Hossain of Nakla Police Station confirmed that Mujahidul’s body had been taken for an inquest report and that both the autorickshaw and the votvoti involved in the collision have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
