Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered actor Ashraful Haque Don to be sent to jail shortly after his arrest in connection with the murder case of the renowned film actor Salman Shah. The court’s order came after Don was apprehended at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana issued the jailing order upon the request of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspector Arifur Rahman, who is leading the investigation. The CID inspector argued that Don, named in the first information report (FIR) along with other accused, played a role in Salman Shah’s planned murder.

The arrest and jailing of Don mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation into Salman Shah’s death, which has been shrouded in mystery for nearly three decades. The CID has been actively probing the case since a murder case was filed last year at Ramna Police Station, following a directive from the court.

Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, lodged the murder case on October 21 last year, 29 years after the actor’s death, accusing 11 individuals by name as well as several unnamed persons. Among those named in the case are Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, actor Ashraful Haque Don, and others.

The legal proceedings regarding Salman Shah’s death began to gain momentum following an October 20 directive last year by Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Mohammad Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque. The judge instructed the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to reclassify Salman Shah’s ‘unnatural death’ as a murder case and pursue a thorough investigation.

Subsequently, a Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on October 27 last year against Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque and actor Ashraful Haque, amid ongoing investigations into their alleged involvement in the case.
