Ashulia: A man allegedly hacked his distant niece to death before committing suicide in the Shrikhandia area of Ashulia on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 47, son of Haji Madari Mondal, and Rekha Begum, 30.

According to United News of Bangladesh, locals reported that Nazrul attacked Rekha with a chapati in the afternoon, killing her on the spot. Following the violent act, Nazrul died by suicide. The police were informed, and they later recovered the bodies, sending them to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.

Rekha was a mother of three children, with her husband, Russel Mia, residing in Dubai for an extended period. Locals alleged that Nazrul and Rekha were involved in a romantic relationship, which might have contributed to the tragic incident.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tariqul Islam confirmed that both individuals were local residents and relatives. “The matter is being investigated seriously,” he stated, indicating ongoing efforts to uncover the motives behind the incident.
