Dhaka: Opposition Leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has called upon the Acting President to convene a special session of parliament to address the ongoing power and energy crisis, as well as the worsening socioeconomic and law-and-order situation in the nation.

According to United News of Bangladesh, this request was articulated in a letter sent to the acting president, details of which were released in a press statement by Mujibul Alam, Senior Publicity Assistant of the party’s Central Publicity Department. The letter was also forwarded to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Parliament Secretariat, underscoring the gravity of the current situation.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the severe power shortages affecting the country, noting that rampant load-shedding is making life unbearable for citizens and severely disrupting industrial production, business, and commerce. He pointed out that the crisis is directly contributing to rising prices of essential goods and a severe decline in overall law and order, leaving the populace in a state of extreme uncertainty.

The opposition leader emphasized the importance of parliamentary discussion to address these pressing issues, arguing that representatives cannot remain passive in the face of such challenges. He urged the acting president to convene a special parliamentary session to find immediate solutions to the power and energy crisis and associated national problems.

The request for this urgent parliamentary session was formally submitted on Friday, as reported by the central publicity department of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
