Dhaka: Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

According to United News of Bangladesh, in a message of congratulations, Dr Yunus highlighted Mirza Fakhrul’s extensive political journey over more than five decades, noting its close connection with the political history of Bangladesh. Dr Yunus commended Mirza Fakhrul’s organisational skills, wisdom, leadership during crises, and his experience working at the grassroots level, which have established him as a significant figure in national politics.

The chief adviser of the immediate-past interim government expressed his admiration for the BNP stalwart, emphasizing his belief that Mirza Fakhrul, as an academic, seasoned politician, and man of principle, will uphold the dignity of the highest constitutional office of the state through his new role. Dr Yunus expressed optimism for Bangladesh’s advancement towards greater prosperity, justice, and democracy under Mirza Fakhrul’s leadership. He also wished the new President good health, a long life, and success in his responsibilities.
