Dhaka: BNP has appointed its National Standing Committee member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi as the party’s acting secretary general. The appointment comes in the wake of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s election as the country’s 23rd President, creating a vacancy in the BNP’s secretary general position.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the announcement was made through a press release signed by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain. Rizvi’s appointment adheres to Article 7(B)(6) of the BNP constitution and is effective immediately, filling the gap left by Fakhrul’s transition to the presidency.

The vacancy arose after Fakhrul’s elevation to the presidency. On August 15, Rizvi joined the BNP National Standing Committee along with three other leaders. Just five days later, he was entrusted with the responsibility of acting secretary general.

Rizvi’s political career includes being elected as the party’s senior joint secretary general during the BNP’s sixth national council in 2016, underscoring his long-standing involvement and experience within the party.
