Showers Expected in Several Provinces


Colombo: Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts, according to the latest weather forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. today.



According to News.LK, several spells of showers are expected in the North-Western Province. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.



Strong winds of around 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces and in the Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota, and Matale districts. The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.



Meanwhile, the Sun will be directly overhead over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from 28 August to 7 September, due to its apparent southward relative motion. Today, 29 August, the nearest places in Sri Lanka where the Sun will be directly overhead at around 12.11 p.m. are Pallawarayankaddu, Akkarayankulam, Ariviyal Nagar, Puthukkudiyiruppu, and Ananthapuram.
