U.S. Montana National Guard Delegation Engages with Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence


Colombo: On the sidelines of Exercise ATLAS ANGEL-II 2026, a delegation from the U.S. Montana National Guard, led by Brigadier General Trace Thomas and Brigadier General Renea Dorvall, accompanied by officials from the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, visited the Ministry of Defence on 01 September. During the visit, the delegation met the Overlooking Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Additional Secretary (Civil Security and Development), Mrs. Indika Wijegunawardana, at the Ministry of Defence Premises.



According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen military cooperation and enhance bilateral relations between the U.S. and Sri Lanka. The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss various aspects of defense and security, alongside potential areas for collaborative efforts in the future.



The Montana National Guard’s participation in Exercise ATLAS ANGEL-II 2026 highlights the commitment to joint training and exchange of expertise between the two nations. The exercise aims to improve interoperability and readiness for emergency response scenarios. The Ministry of Defence expressed optimism about the outcomes of the discussions and the potential for future joint initiatives.
