Colombo: Namal Rajapaksa, the eldest son of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested on Friday by the country’s bribery investigation body in connection with an alleged bribery incident involving the purchase of wide-body aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.

According to Nam News Network, Namal Rajapaksa appeared before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to provide a statement after being summoned for questioning. Local media reported that he was taken into custody following several hours of questioning. Investigations into the alleged aircraft transaction are continuing.
