Colombo: The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Udaygiri has docked at the Port of Colombo today, marking the commencement of its official visit. The ship’s arrival was met with ceremonial honors by the Sri Lanka Navy, maintaining longstanding naval traditions.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, INS Udaygiri, a 149.02-meter long frigate commanded by Captain Vikas Sood, will engage in a series of activities aimed at strengthening ties between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies. Captain Sood, who formerly served as the Defence Adviser at the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka from July 2020 to October 2023, is set to meet with Rear Admiral Harsha De Silva, the Commander of the Western Naval Area, at the Western Naval Command Headquarters.

Throughout the visit, the crew of INS Udaygiri will partake in goodwill events organized by the Sri Lanka Navy to foster camaraderie between the two forces. The ship’s personnel will also have the opportunity to explore notable tourist and cultural sites on the island.

In a gesture of mutual learning and cooperation, Sri Lanka Navy personnel will board INS Udaygiri for capability observation and knowledge exchange. Onboard training sessions are also planned during the ship’s stay in Colombo.
