Ampara: Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), serving as the Author of the Deegawapiya Aruna Trust and First Trustee, conducted a field study tour at the historic Deegawapiya Stupa premises to assess the progress of the Stupa Restoration Project.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the Defence Secretary visited the brick production site associated with the restoration project and issued directives to expedite the work in a systematic manner. During his visit, he met with the Chief Prelate of Deegawapiya Raja Maha Viharaya, Ven. Mahaoya Sobhitha Thero, worshiped at the Deegawapiya Stupa, and laid a brick in the ongoing construction. He engaged in discussions with project officials about the construction progress and provided them with necessary instructions for future work.

In addition to visiting the newly constructed Relics Chamber, Air Vice Marshal Thuyacontha (Retd) also toured the Most Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thero Memorial Hall, the Alms Offering Hall, and the Sh
rine Room, all of which are under construction. He chaired a discussion involving Ven. Maha Sangha and project officers to address existing issues related to the restoration efforts. Technical instructions were given to ensure the effective completion of the construction.

The occasion was attended by the Chief Prelate of Deegawapiya Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Mahaoya Sobhitha Thero, along with the Director General of the Civil Security Department, senior Defence Ministry officials, senior military officers, Police, Special Task Force officers, Archaeology Department officials, and other concerned project officials.
