Dhaka: Newly appointed Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission Md Saidur Rahman Khan on Sunday emphasized the need to exile corruption to ensure sustainable development, vowing to restore public trust in the anti-graft body through integrity, professionalism, and dedication.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Khan addressed the media at the ACC headquarters, acknowledging the negative perception the Commission has faced. He committed to reversing this image by prioritizing honesty, professionalism, and commitment to make the institution more people-friendly and a trusted public entity.

Khan expressed that preventing corruption is crucial for good governance, stating that the ACC must evolve into a capable, impartial, and citizen-oriented institution to effectively combat corruption. He highlighted plans to ensure that the public receives effective services from the ACC and that state resources are properly protected and utilized.

The new secretary emphasized the importance of understanding the Commission’s activities comprehensively. He mentioned that discussions with officials and employees would be held, and if necessary, a priority-based “crash programme” would be launched. Recommendations on institutional reforms would be reviewed and feasible measures implemented promptly.

Regarding the formation of a new Commission, Khan noted that the search committee was nearing completion of its work, and the Commission would be finalized once the government’s required procedures were completed. He expressed optimism that a full Commission would assume office shortly.

Addressing concerns about the ACC’s independence, Khan underscored the Commission’s status as an independent constitutional institution, operating in accordance with the law and in the public interest, not under any individual or political influence.

Khan acknowledged varying assessments of the Commission’s past performance but reiterated the new leadership’s goal of transforming the ACC into an impartial, professional, and credible institution. He assured the public that the promised positive transformation would be evident and visible.
