Dhaka: An elderly woman from Batna village in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur died shortly after receiving the devastating news that her son had been allegedly murdered by muggers. The tragic incident unfolded on Thursday night when Ataur Rahman Ata, a 50-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, was killed, purportedly for his battery-powered rickshaw.

According to United News of Bangladesh, police discovered Ata’s body near Shimultali, close to Mirzanagar Girls’ High School, after being alerted through the national emergency service 999. The body displayed injuries seemingly caused by a sharp weapon, raising suspicions of a violent attack.

Ata’s relatives recounted that a group of individuals posing as passengers hired the auto-rickshaw and led Ata to the secluded Shimultali area. It was there that the alleged muggers took his life and absconded with the vehicle. The tragic news reached his mother, Johura Khatun, who passed away from shock shortly after midnight, adding to the grief-stricken atmosphere in the community.

Officer-in-Charge of Kapasia Police Station, Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, confirmed that Ata’s body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities are actively investigating the murder, seeking to identify those responsible, and have initiated legal proceedings in connection with the case.
