Dhaka: The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (Bajus) has announced an increase in the price of gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori, establishing the new rate for 22-karat gold at Tk 223,074 per bhori, inclusive of VAT, effective from Monday morning.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Bajus issued a notice stating that the price hike was necessitated by a rise in the cost of pure gold in the local market. The revised pricing took effect from 10 am on the same day. Under this new pricing structure, 22-karat gold ornaments will now be priced at Tk 223,074 per bhori, including VAT.

The adjustment also affects other gold categories: 21-karat gold saw an increase of Tk 2,100, bringing the price to Tk 213,043 per bhori, while 18-karat gold rose by Tk 1,750 to Tk 182,950. Traditional gold ornaments experienced an increase of Tk 1,458, reaching Tk 149,474 per bhori.

Bajus clarified that these prices will remain in effect across all jewellery outlets until further notice, although making charges will still vary depending on the design. Additionally, VAT is incorporated into the sale price of gold and silver ornaments, meaning it will not be charged separately to customers.

The association’s rules regarding ornament exchange and purchase remain unchanged, excluding specified VAT, making charges, and stone value. The last gold price adjustment by Bajus occurred on July 24, when the rate was decreased by Tk 3,324 per bhori, setting the 22-karat gold price, inclusive of VAT, at Tk 220,858.

Bajus has revised gold prices 95 times in 2026, with increases on 46 occasions, decreases 48 times, and one adjustment made over VAT.

In tandem with the gold price revision, silver prices have also been increased. The cost of 22-karat silver ornaments rose by Tk 59 to Tk 4,666 per bhori, including VAT. The price of 21-karat silver increased by Tk 175 to Tk 4,549, 18-karat silver by Tk 116 to Tk 3,907, and traditional silver ornaments by Tk 116 to Tk 2,974 per bhori.
