Dhaka: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday summoned Myanmar Ambassador Kyaw Soe Moe, expressing Bangladesh’s deep concern over a recent incident involving gunfire from Myanmar towards Bangladesh near Whykong Union of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. A 12-year-old Bangladeshi girl suffered severe injuries due to the cross-border firing on Sunday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Bangladesh highlighted that the unprovoked firing is a blatant violation of international law and poses a threat to the good neighbourly relationship between the two countries. The Bangladeshi authorities have urged Myanmar to assume full responsibility and take necessary measures to prevent such cross-border incidents in the future.
Bangladesh also emphasized that any internal conflicts between Myanmar authorities and armed groups should not adversely impact the lives and livelihoods of people in Bangladesh. The Myanmar ambassador assured that his government would take steps to prevent such occurrences and extended sincere sympathy to the injured girl and her family.
