Chattogram: A Chhatra Dal activist died after suffering a heatstroke while heading to a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) rally at the Polo Ground in Chattogram, police and party sources said. Two others were injured in a stampede at the rally venue and were hospitalized.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman, a resident of the Enayet Bazar Mosque area in the city. Witnesses reported that Saidur joined a procession from the Enayet Bazar area to attend the BNP rally. While recording a video at the front of the procession, he suddenly collapsed in the CRB area around noon.
He was rushed to the city’s National Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Former general secretary of Chattogram city BNP, Abul Hashem Bakkar, confirmed the death, stating that the youth died on his way to the Polo Ground rally, apparently due to heatstroke.
Attempts to contact Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aftab Ahmed for comment were unsuccessful.
