Colombo: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, H.E Qi Zhenhong, recently met with the newly elected Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Hon. Dr. Asoka Ranwala. The meeting took place in Parliament and was also attended by the Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera.
According to News.LK, during the meeting, the Chinese Ambassador conveyed greetings from Hon. Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, to the newly elected Speaker of the Tenth Parliament of Sri Lanka. Hon. Dr. Asoka Ranwala expressed his intent to strengthen the longstanding cooperation between Sri Lanka and China, particularly under the new government led by Hon. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The Chinese Ambassador emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship between the legislative bodies of the two countries. He suggested the establishment of the Sri Lanka-China Parliamentary Friendship Association in th
e Tenth Parliament. Moreover, both parties discussed expanding cooperation in several areas, such as economic development, agriculture-related issues including hybrid seed development, water management, crude oil refining, foreign investment, and export promotion.
